5 Things You Might Not Know About Airsoft GI

We here at Airsoft GI love telling stories and sharing the joy of Airsoft with just about everyone we meet. Even though we are blabber mouths when it comes to airsoft, there’s still a lot of stuff folks don’t know about all of us here that is fun to share. As such, we decided to try out a new blog series called “5 Things You Might Not Know About Airsoft GI”

We really hope you like it and if you have any questions feel free to comment or hit us up on our facebook page if you’d like to know more. Well, without further ado…

NUMBER 2

Airsoft GI had very humble beginnings. Airsoft GI was started in a garage and our first store was almost no wider than the window you see here at our grand opening over 10 years ago.

My Favorite CO2 Pistol…Right now

I have been using a certain CO2 pistol since just before Tim VS Bob IV/4.5 which has now become a permanent part of this Axe Man’s armory and it is…The Elite Force 1911 Tactical CO2 Blowback Pistol!

ef 1911

Ever since we started carrying Elite Force 1911’s at Airsoftgi.com and GItactical.com I have had many chances to fire them and every time I marvel at not only their out-of-the-box accuracy but, more importantly for me, the incredible amount of recoil. Now, the recoil might not be “revolutionary” per se, but going from green gas pistols which have significant recoil to the Elite Force 1911 felt like taking a dip in very cold water, in other words it was shocking. There is a LOT of recoil on this gun and as such it was much more fun to shoot than any other gas pistol in my armory.

Thankfully, I was able to purchase one just before Tim VS Bob IV/4.5 and thereby got quite a bit of field testing in with said pistol. One of the things I noticed while on the east coast is that my Elite Force 1911 did respond much better to colder weather than I ever would have expected my other green gas pistols to. I was able to achieve solid hits on targets further out and in colder weather than I would have ever been able to had I used a pistol running on green gas. Now, this is not to say that an Elite Force 1911 will always function in cold weather, but that it will perform above comparable green gas pistols in cold weather simply because of the fact that it is designed well and uses CO2 to function.

My Favorite Gas Blow Back Rifle…

lm42I’ve been using a KWA LM4 PTS for over a year now and I’m beyond the point of worrying about other people’s opinions when I say this but… I love it!

In the years leading up to my ownership of an LM4 I have been routinely infatuated with gas blow backs. In fact, I almost always have a sidearm on my person for airsoft games. That’s because having to go for my sidearm in airsoft games is one of my favorite parts about playing. Going for my sidearm means that “fit” is hitting the “shan” and I just need to keep shooting to stay in the game and I live for moments in airsoft like that.

sidearm2So beyond having side arms on my person, I graduated into the gas blow back submachine gun market about 3 years ago with my purchase of a KWA KMP9 along with a Danger Werx Flute valve (so it would shoot under the 350 FPS CQB limit). Not only does a KMP9 from KWA have excellent trigger response, build, and an absurd rate of fire, but the weight it mostly concentrated on or around the pistol grip. This means that with the stock out it’s incredibly easy to fire the gun one-handed and transition between targets quickly. This makes the KMP9 and excellent gun to use with my battle axe.

Tactical Response Unleashed

tru eventMy first experience with Tactical Response Unleashed (TRU, for short) came in the days leading up to the opening of Airsoft GI’s east coast store GI Tactical, located in Chesterfield, VA. TRU was originally designed as a law enforcement and hand-to-hand combat training facility and as such had multiple padded martial arts rooms, a briefing area with tent, armory, overhead walkway for viewing action, as well as two small cqb sections for the use of airsoft guns.

[Note: this is a photo taken before TRU changed the field to accommodate more airsoft gameplay]tru3During our first visit there were a few things that surprised us that are worth mentioning. Firstly, on their main law enforcement cqb course, the targets that would pop up for us to shoot would actually shoot back if they were not engaged quickly enough. We were subtly warned about this but, it honestly took me getting shot in the forehead for me to take both adequate use of cover and the warning I got from the staff about the targets more seriously.

AAR Rebel Training Camp: Northern Resistance

training camp northWith the second incarnation of the Airsoft GI’s Rebel Training camp occurring at Gamepod Combat Zone in Antioch, Ca there were a myriad of fun things that we could offer new players and Veterans alike.

Gamepod Combat Zone is the largest indoor training facility in North America and as such they have a wide array of game styles available at their doorstep. Not only that, but the field staff are as professional as they come and are always looking for new and different ways to keep us players on our toes. One of the ways they have accomplished this for Airsoft GI’s Rebel training camp is through the advent and use of destroyable buildings. Gamepod staff rigged four different building with air cannons filled with pancake mix that were connected to audio cable jacks within each building that could then be connected to a detonator and set off. This alone made the day that much more enjoyable and cinematic as our marketing manager Daniel found out first hand when his detonator malfunction and was told by game staff that “it’s real world, so make it count.” Make it count he did, but that story will have to be saved for another day and a different blog post.

Another key component to the days’ events was the training staff. Through connections with Gamepod personnel, we at Airsoft GI were able to connect with SGT Brad XXXX and SSGT Eric XXXX (names withheld for security purposes). These were two first rate individuals and their training was second to none. These gentlemen were both deployed overseas in defense of our country and their desire to pass on their knowledge to the next generation was commendable. In fact, one of the most enjoyable moments for me personally was seeing many of the kids at the event, some of whom were first time players, using the training they had just received on the airsoft battlefield. Seeing young Rebels, who normally would have run screaming at the enemy, instead pie a corner was truly enthralling and very gratifying.

Another exciting element to this training camp was also the fact that vehicles were readily available throughout the day. Many players normally don’t have the opportunity to engage with or against armored components on the airsoft battlefield and introducing this scenario to players was an important part of making this event a success. Now, this comes with a caveat because introducing novice players to a battlefield full of vehicles is always rife with danger. However, because of the number and quality of Gamepod trained referee staff, any danger or confusion was mitigated to the point where players could concentrate on their game play and the enemy engaging them.

Gamepod Combat zone is one of the finest indoor facilities in the United States of America and I feel privileged to have been able to play there. More AAR’s of Bob “The Axe Man’s” Rebel Training Camp: Northern Resistance are soon to follow and will go over each game evolution in it’s entirety as well as the tactical movement made by each side.
